Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. MRS. E.E.M. WOOLFOLK was born in Woodford County in 1836, and is a daughter of N. E. and Elizabeth (Graddy) Martin. N. E. Martin was born in Mason County, Ky., December, 1796; was a farmer and died in Scott County in 1876, a member of the Baptist Church. His father, Henry Martin, was a native of Virginia. The maternal grandfather of Mrs. Woolfolk, Jesse B. Graddy, was born in North Carolina, but came to Kentucky in an early day and settled in Woodford County. Mrs. Woolfolk was educated at the female college at Georgetown, and May 21, 1856, married Josiah P. Woolfolk, of Scott County, a son of Elijah and Phoebe (Pitts) Woolfolk. Josiah P. was born in April, 1811, brought up on his father's farm, and graduated when twenty-one from the medical college at Lexington. After practicing his profession for a year or two in Kentucky, he removed to Mississippi, where he was more than ordinarily successful, and laid the foundation for a very considerable fortune, the greater part of which was swept away by the civil war. He died in 1883, a member of the Baptist Church and a Master Mason. Of the six children born to Dr. and Mrs. Woolfolk, four are living: Elizabeth M., who is married to S. D. Pinkerton; Sallie G., who is married to Oscar Blakemore; Josiah P. and Mary R. Elizabeth M. and Sallie G. attended school at Madison Institute, Richmond, Ky.; where Elizabeth M. graduated. Josiah P. received his preliminary education at Versailles, Ky., and graduated from the Bellevue (N. Y.) Medical College at the age of twenty-five, and is now practicing at Bellevue Hospital. Mary R. attended college at Nazareth, Ky., and also at Boston, Mass. Mrs. Woolfolk owns 130 acres in Versailles Precinct, Woodford County, and also 900 acres in Sharkey County, Miss. She and all her children are members of the Baptist Church.
