SHOUSE was born January 25, 1827, the youngest of ten children born to Samuel and Catherine (Perry) Shouse, natives of Woodford County. His grandfather, Henry Shouse, came from Pennsylvania and settled on the farm now owned by Samuel H. about one century ago. He was in the war of 1812. Grandfather Lewis Perry, from Virginia, settled in Woodford County about the same time. Samuel's father, a farmer, was born in 1778, and died in 1842. Samuel H. is a native of Woodford County, was reared on the farm, and has always farmed. He was married, May 7, 1857, to Miss Mary J. Orr, daughter of John Orr, a native of Woodford County. John Orr's father, James Orr, was a native of Ireland, and one of the first settlers of the county. Seven children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Shouse: Eunice, Fannie, James, Albert, Henry, Mamie and Edgar (deceased). Mr. Shouse was elected magistrate in 1862, serving four years.
