Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. THOMAS H. SHIPP (deceased) was a native of Woodford County, born in September, 1824, and died in 1878. He was a son of Richard and Sarah (McCracken) Shipp, natives of Virginia and Woodford County, Ky. There were eleven children born to this union of whom but two are now living: Seneca M., born May 20, 1815, and Mrs. Margaret Parrish. Thomas H. Shipp's grandfather, Richard Shipp, was a native of Virginia, and died in Woodford County. Thomas H. Shipp married Mary VanDeGraff, daughter of John and Mary (Simpson) VanDeGraff, natives of Scott and Fayette Counties. Two children of this union are living: John V., born in 1862, and Thomas H. born in August, 1868. John V. Shipp married Katie L. Perry of Shelby County, Ky., February 19, 1885. "Old Fort" the old homestead of 170 acres, has been in the family about 100 years.
