Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. P. C. KIDD, Kentucky's favorite auctioneer, born in Lexington, Ky., June 16, 1843, is the eldest son of S. A. and Martha J. (Clark) Kidd, both natives of Fayette County. P. C. Kidd was reared in Woodford County, and educated at the high schools at Versailles. He enlisted in the Confederate Army under Gen. Morgan, and at the conclusion of the war he began making sales as an auctioneer, still follows that vocation, and is now recognized as the leading auctioneer in Kentucky. His uniform success is testified to by the press of the State and the country west of the Alleghany [sic] Mountains. Many of the thoroughbred horses and cattle raised by the principal breeders of United State have been cataloged and sold by Mr. Kidd. May 21, 1875, Mr. Kidd married Miss Lelia, daughter of Benjamin and Salle (Leftwich) Major, natives of Kentucky and Virginia respectively. The family is a very ancient one, and is derived from Huguenot stock. To Mr. Kidd's marriage have been born four children: Major P., Samuel, Franklin J. and Philip. Mr. and Mrs. Kidd are members of the Baptist Church, and reside on 351 acres--Elkwood farm--formerly the homestead of William Buford, the celebrated thoroughbred horse trainer.
