Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. William B. HOLLOWAY, born February 8, 1825, is the fourth son of Spencer and Catherine (Reed) Holloway. Spencer, born in Kentucky in 1783, a tailor and farmer, was a son of James Holloway, a native of Virginia, who served as a captain in the Revolutionary war. Mrs. Catherine (Reed) Holloway was born in Tennessee. William B. Holloway, born in Jessamine County, worked at carpentering until 1856, when he fell from a house and injured his spine, since when he has been engaged in farming and stock raising. He had, however, removed to Woodford County in 1846, and settled on the farm on which he still resides. In April of that year he married Miss Mary J., daughter of William and Mary (Ootz) Chilton, natives of Virginia. To this union were born five children, William S. (who was county attorney of Jessamine County at the time of his death). Dr. U. G., Dr. W. W. and two who died in infancy. Mrs. Mary J. Holloway died in 1861 and Mr. Holloway next married Alice I., daughter of William and Julia (Gillespie) Chilton. To this second union have been born four children: Mattie S. (Mrs. J. L. Gordon), Ida B., Irene and Lizzie. Mr. and Mrs. Holloway are members of the Baptist Church, and reside on their farm of 315 acres near Mortonsville.
