Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. THE FLEMING FAMILY. Leonard Israel Fleming died on his farm in Woodford County, October 27, 1845. He was born Jun 18, 1764, at Staunton, Va. He was the son of Col. William Fleming who had emigrated from Scotland to Belmont, Va., and died there in 1795. Leonard's first wife was Mary Bowyer, who died November 13, 1804, and his second was Miss Basey of Bourbon County. He left a large family of children, none of whom have descendants surviving except Mrs. Summers; Mrs. Patterson; Mrs. Royster, of Fayette; Mrs. Sullivan, who died in Fayette; Mrs. Stillwell, living in Indiana, and William Bowyer Fleming, whose son of same name resides in Louisville, Ky., and whose grandson Clarence, and granddaughter Adah Graham, reside at Midway, Ky. Mr. Leonard Fleming was a man of great force of character, and somewhat eccentric. He took up a magnificent body of land in Woodford and Scott Counties, the relic of which is known as the "Leavy Place". His younger brother, Col. William Fleming, removed to Huntsville, Ala., where he lived until his death. He was a man of wealth and distinguished as a member of the Legislature for a number of years. He died childless. The connections of this family embrace not only those above mentioned, but the Kents, the Baxters, the Allens, the Ramseys, the Brattons, the Wilsons, the Bowyers, the Millers, and others scattered over Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and other States.
