Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. DR. THOMAS C. COLLINS was born in Grant County, Ky., December 9, 1843, and is the son of John and Julia A. (Clark) Collins, also natives of Grant County. John Collins was born in 1814, and besides being a farmer, carried on distilling. Thomas C. Collins was reared on a farm, and was educated at the common schools of his neighborhood. In 1862, he began the study of medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1868, he entered upon the practice of his profession in Midway, in conjunction with the drug business, the firm name being originally T. C. Collins & Co., afterward Collins & McCabe, and afterward Collins & Head. In July, 1884, he entered the dry goods trade also, under the firm name of Tompson & Collins, and has continued in both lines of business ever since. He is also the owner of 213 acres of good farming land in Bourbon County. October 16, 1867, he married Miss Mary E., daughter of Nathaniel and Mary L. (Humphrey) Roberts, the former a native of Scott, the latter of Harrison County. The children born to this union are named Nathaniel C., May and Julia. Mr. Collins is an Odd Fellow, and with his wife a member of the Christian Church.
