BALL is a native of Woodford County, Ky.; was born March 29, 1824, a son of John and Susan (Mitchum) Ball, who were born in Boyle and Woodford Counties, respectively. Dudley Mitchum, the maternal grandfather, after whom the subject was named, settled on the farm where the latter now resides. He was born in Virginia, July 2, 1754, and died May 19, 1831. John Ball, his father, was born in 1802, and died February 7, 1832, and his wife, Susan Mitchum, was born February 15, 1803, and died September 22, 1868. Dudley M. Ball has always lived in Woodford County. Previous to the war he traded extensively in stock, and his life has been spent at both farming and stock trading. He was married to Joanna Chrisman, a daughter of Joseph and granddaughter of Hugh Chrisman, old and prominent residents of Jessamine County, Ky. Mr. Ball has a pleasant home four miles from Versailles and Nicholasville, on the Versailles and Nicholasville Turnpike. His marriage has been blessed with seven children: John, Josephine, Dudley, Minnie, Howard, Ernest and Susie.
