Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Whitley County Reuben Douglas Hill is a native of Campbell County, Tenn., was born November 23, 1848, and is a son of Joab and Elizabeth Hill, the former born in Claiborne County, Tenn., March 30, 1801, and the latter in Campbell County, Tenn., October 5, 1806. Reuben D., on being brought to Kentucky in 1854, received his preliminary education in the public schools of Whitley County and at home, supplemented by four months' attendance at Madison Academy, Rutledge, Tenn. Between the ages of sixteen and twenty-one he taught school, and from 1869 to 1872 was in the drug business at Williamsburg, Ky. March 28, 1872, he was licensed to practice law, which profession he has ever since followed, with unvarying success, at Williamsburg. May 3, 1871, he married Miss Nancy Elizabeth Wilder, daughter of Joel and Sarah Wilder, and this union has been blessed with four children, viz: Theodosia Ernest, Nora Edith, Fannie Blanche and Arthur Myers.
