Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Wayne County J.F. McConnaghy, county clerk of Wayne County, Ky., was born in Wetumpka, Elmore County, Ala., February 14, 1861, and is a son of Hugh and Martha (Henry) McConnaghy. Hugh McConnaghy was a native of Ireland, and came to the United States when eighteen years of age. He was a jeweler by trade, at which trade he worked all his life. He died in 1873. Martha (Henry) McConnaghy was born in Alabama. J.F. McConnaghy is the second of five living children, viz: H.H., J.F., William, Robert E. and Charlie. J.F. McConnaghy clerked in a drug store for about three years, and when eighteen years old was appointed deputy sheriff of Wayne County, which position he held until 1882. In the latter year he was elected sheriff, assuming the duties of the office January 1, 1883, and serving one term. At the last election he was elected county clerk.
