JOHN VOGEL, SR., native of Worms, Hesse Darmstadt, Germany, was born in 1829, and is a son of Martin and Catherine (Urich) Vogel. His parents were also natives of Germany, where they lived and died. John Vogel, at the age of six years, ws placed at the public schools of his native country, and there remained until fourteen. The following year he learned the butcher's trade. He served two years in the German Army. In 1850 he came to the United States and settled in Louisville, Ky., where he worked at his trade and resided until 1855. He then came to Bowling Green and here has since lived. He continued butchering in this city until 1877. In addition to the meat-market business he has also, since 1873, been engaged in the ice trade; also in the sale of fine wines and liquors. The marriage of Mr. Vogel took place, in 1851, with Francisca Blaum, also a native of Germany. Mrs. Vogel came to America in 1850. Four children have been born to this union as follows: John, Rosena, Bettie and George. Mr. Vogel is a Democrat, and a member of the I. O. F. F.
