Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Warren County. J. E. MEREDITH, M.D., was born near Scottsville, in Allen County, Ky., in 1845. He is a son of Amstead and Elizabeth (Weaver) Meredith, and is of English descent. His parents were born in Virginia, and came to Kentucky in 1837, and settled in Scottsville, where they died. Dr. Meredith was reared on the farm and attended the country schools. In 1862 he engaged in general merchandising at Scottsville, which he continued for four years. In 1867 he began to study of medicine [sic], under the direction of Drs. Shepherd and Milliken, at his native town. He attended one course of lectures at the University of Louisville, and the second course at the University of Nashville, and from this institution graduated in 1827. Locating at Allen Springs, Ky., he practiced his profession for eleven years, then removed to Smith's Grove and resided two years, and then came to Bowling Green, where he continues his regular practice. He married, in 1873, Jennie Johnson, of this county. They have two children, viz.: Claude and Arthur. Dr. Meredith is a Democrat, and a member of the Masonic fraternity. Mrs. Meredith is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
