Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Warren County. JOHN C. JONES was born in Warren County, May 3, 1843. He is the third in a family of four sons and seven daughters born to Russel and Malinda (Smith) Jones, both of whom were Kentuckians. Those of the family yet living are James H., Bedford, John C., Melvina and Elizabeth. Russel Jones followed the vocation of a farmer. He died in 1845 at his home in Warren County. He was a son of Benjamin Jones, who was a native of Virginia; came to Kentucky and located in Warrren County, where he remained during the remainder of his life. John C. Jones was three years old when his father died, and from that time he remained under the care of his mother; as he grew up to become a support to her and cared for her until her death in 1879. Young Jones had but few advantages for school training, and his education is entirely practical. In business he has been moderately successful. He owns a farm, cultivates grain and tobacco, raises some stock and gives some attention to fruits, of which his large and thrifty orchards produce a variety. May 9, 1866, Mr. Jones was united in marriage with Mrs. Catherine F. Jones, a widow of G. W. Jones, and a daughter of Jacob Miller, of Warren County, Ky. Margaret A. Jones is her first husband's child. To this last union have been born six sons; John O., Henry A., Peter C., Columbus E., Lucian F. and an infant unnamed. Mr. and Mrs. Jones and their daughter are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Jones is a Republican; votes his sentiments; does not meddle with caucuses, but gives his attention to his farming operations, the uniform improvement of his land, the education of his children, and the good of the community in which he resides.
