GRIDER, attorney at law, is a native of Somerville, Tenn., born March 29, 1850, is a son of Ben H. and Catherine (Worrel) Grider, and is of German-Scotch origin. In a family of four chldren he is the third. Ben H. Grider was born in Warren County, Ky., in 1820, and here remained until a young man, when he went to Somerville, Tenn., and there read law and subsequently engaged in the practice of his profession, which he continued until his death, in 1854; his wife was born in Fayette County, Tenn., in 1830, but after his second marriage removed to California, and there has since resided. John B. Grider was, at four years of age, brought to Warrren County, Ky., and placed under the guardianship of an uncle, by whom he was reared and educated. After attending the public schools, he, in 1867, entered Cumberland University at Lebanon, Tenn., and from that school graduated in 1871, and then returned to Warren County, Ky., and for a time was engaged in teaching school. He read law under Halsell & Mitchell of Bowling Green, and was admitted to the Warren County bar in 1873, and since has been in the active practice of his profession. In 1877 he formed a partnership with H. T. Clark, for the practice of law. Mr. Grider is one of the successful lawyers at the Warren County bar, and now enjoys an enviable reputation. He married, in March, 1880, Mrs. Alice Johnson, formerly Jenkins. Mrs. Grider is a native of Warren County, Ky. To this union was born one chld, Gerard. Mr. and Mrs. Grider are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He is a Democrat, and one of the popular men of this county.
