JOHN BURKE, proprietor of the Nashville Hotel, is a native of Ireland, born May 27, 1838, and is a son of Patrick and Mary Burke. At the age of eighteen years John Burke came with his parents to America, and the family settled in what is now West Virginia, and there his parents reside. His father is a farmer. In 1859 Mr. Burke came to Kentucky and settled in Louisville. From the time of his settlement there until 1872 he was in the employ of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. In 1866 he removed to Bowling Green, and this has since been his place of residence. On coming to Bowling Green he erected the Nashville Hotel, and for many years he has been engaged in the hotel business. He is a staunch Democrat, and has long labored for the interests and success of that party. In 1873 Mr. Burke was elected to represent the Third Ward in the Bowling Green City Council, and as a member of that body has served four regular terms. His marriage took place, in 1864, with Mrs. Catherine Culletin, also a native of the Emerald Isle. They have one child, viz.: Mary A. Mr. Burke has been successful in life, and is a popular citizen.
