BECKHAM was born abut one mile north of Barren River in the eastern part of Warren County, July 20, 1838, and is the third of the four sons and five daughters born to Clayton S. and Margaret (Ground) Beckham. Clayton S. Beckham was born in Barren County, Ky., in 1806, and was reared a farmer. After marriage he came to Warren County, but in the spring of 1860 moved to Tarrant County, Tex., where he died in October 1864. He was a son of John Beckham, a native of North Carolina, who married Rachel Moseley, and came to Barren County, Ky., about 1795 or 1800, where he was engaged in farming and surveying, in the latter capacity laying out both roads from Bowling Green to Glasgow. Mrs. Margaret Beckham was a daughter of Robert Ground, who was born in England and came to Warren County when in his teens; he married Rhoda Long, whose parents were born in Ireland, but who were among the pioneers of Kentucky. Here one of their daughters, a sister of Rhoda Long, was carried off by the Indians. Pleasant H. Beckham, who was reared a farmer, married, September 19, 1858, Perlina J. Moulder, a native of Tennessee and daughter of Jacob and Sarah (Evans) Moulder. Jacob Moulder was of German descent; was a farmer and a Baptist minister. Mrs. Beckham died in June, 1879, a devoted member of the Christian Church, and the mother of four children: Robert E. (deceased), Simeon A. (deceased), Annie L. and Addie B. In December, 1879, Mr. Beckham married Mrs. Artemisia (Lowe) Fultz, of Warren County. Both are members of the Christian Church. At the age of eighteen Mr. Beckham engaged in teaching; in 1860 he went to Texas, taught until 1868, when he returned to Warren County and engaged in teaching and farming; in 1884 he engaged in the goods business at Doughty's Creek - better known as Toddy's old stand - and is now one of the thriving and leading men of Warren County.
