Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Warren County. W. H. BARR was born in Crawfordsville, Ind., December 21, 1839. He is a son of Thomas and Martha M. (Tipton) Barr, and is of English extraction. The parents were prominent citizens of Kentucky, and were born at Mt. Sterling, where they remained until 1838; then removed to Crawfordsville, Ind., and there resided some years; then returned to their native State and settled at Elizabethtown, where the father died in 1864. Mr. Barr was educated at the public schools of Crawfordsville, Ind., and at Wabash College, where he graduated in 1858, and the next year he came to Hardin County, Ky. In 1864 he began farming and trading, an occupation which he has since continued. In 1883 he came to Bowling Green, and purchased 133 acres of fine land adjoining the city of Bowling Green. Mr. Barr is a leading farmer and trader of this county. His mariage was solemnized in September, 1864, with Nannie L. Phillips, of La Rue County, Ky., daughter of P. P. and Jane M. (Williams) Phillips. The Phillips family was one of the first families of Kentucky, and settled in the Territory in 1796. To Mr. and Mrs. Barr have been born six children: Mattie P. (who was united in mariage, September 12, 1882, in the Mammoth Cave, with P. P. Huffman, of Christian county, Ky.), Irvin T., Grace M., Willie L., Jennie M. and Fannie A. Mr. Barr is a Democrat. He and his wife are prominent members of the Baptist Church.
