LaRue, a farmer and stock raiser of that county, but who was born in LaRue County. The LaRues are of French origin, and were among the Huguenots who came to Virginia from France. Our subject's mother was Letitia Hardin, daughter of Martin Hardin, and of the same family as Hon. Ben Hardin. Our subject was reared on a farm and educated in Mexico, Mo., where he lived six years, but returned to his native State in 1869, where he has since remained. In 1881 he was elected to the office of superintendent of public schools, which position he still holds, his duties being the direct supervision of schools and payment of teachers. He has been a member of the Christian Church since he was thirteen years old, and is a member of the Masonic fraternity and Knights of Honor. He served in the Confederate Army under the command of Gen. Price, and served with honor nine months. In 1868 he was married to Miss Mary Kirtley, daughter of Gen. Ambrose Kirtley, of Edmondson [sic] County. Her father was a farmer, and under the old State military law was ranked as a general. Mrs. LaRue is also a member of the Christian Church. Two children have blessed their union: Mary and Ambrose. Politically Mr. LaRue is a Democrat.
