Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Trimble Co. ELIJAH HOLSCLAW was born April 22, 1841, in Jefferson County, Ind., the fourth of eleven children born to Alexander and Eliza J. (Foster) Holsclaw. His father was born in Garrard County, Ky., moved to Trimble County in 1825 and settled near where our subject now resides. His grandparents were natives of Virginia. Our subject began for himself at farming, a poor boy, but now owns 150 acres of well improved land and resides in easy circumstances, near Milton. He enlisted in 1862, in Company E, Fourth Kentucky, under Col. Giltner, served until the close of the war and received an honorable discharge. During the struggle he was captured by Burnsides' corps and imprisoned at Camp Chase, and later in Fort Delaware on Delaware Bay. At the close of the war he returned to Trimble County, and May 6, 1868, married Miss Martha A. Martin, of Oldham County, daughter of Beverly and Rebecca Martin. Her parents were born in Virginia and moved to Kentucky in an early day. To Mr. and Mrs. Holsclaw seven children were born, all of whom are living: Ida, Ella, Frank, Ira, Edward, James and Nora. Politically Mr. Holsclaw is a Democrat. Holsclaw Foster Martin = Garrard-KY Oldham-KY Jefferson-IN VA http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/trimble/holsclaw.e.txt
