MARK COFFIN is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, and was born August 26, 1815, the second of five children born to Christopher and Rebecca (Swain) Coffin. Christopher Coffin was born in Massachusetts, was a cooper by trade and followed the same the greater part of his life. He married about 1810, and soon after moved west and located at Cincinnati, Ohio, where he worked at his trade until 1821, when he moved to Boone County, Ky., and followed farming and coopering. Later he moved to Kenton County, where he died in 1837. His wife died in 1828. Our subject came to Kentucky when but five years of age, was reared on the farm, and received a common school education. He worked with his father in the cooper shop in early life, and had the care of the family many years before he came of age. In 1850 he went to California, returning in 1851 to Kentucky. In 1858 he moved to Trimble County and settled where he now resides, and owns a half interest in a fine farm of 300 acres, on which is a good nursery and orchard, and is extensively engaged in the fruit and nursery business. He married, in 1842, Sarah A. Kendall, a daughter of James and Mary (Dolahi) Kendall, of Kenton County, Ky. To this union were born five sons and two daughters: William D., James C., Cyrus W., George W., Hiram F., Lizzie L. and Sarah R. Mr. Coffin is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and has attained the R. A. degree. He is also a member of the I.O.O.F. Politically he is a Greenbacker.
