Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Spencer Co. ANDREW J. JESSE was born in Woodford County, Ky., February 24, 1830, the younger of two children born to Washington and Eliza (Jesse) Jesse. Washington was born in Middlesex County, Va., in 1799, and, coming to Kentucky, settled in Woodford County. His parents were Thomas and Annie (Dixon) Jesse. Mrs. Ann Eliza Jesse was born in Woodford County also, and was a daughter of John B. Jesse. In 1840 our subject moved from Woodford to Shelby County, where he resided until 1861. For eight years, from 1840 to 1848; his father was engaged in the manufacture of hemp rope and bagging, in which our subject was also engaged. The father was afterward a farmer in the county of Shelby. In 1861 Andrew J. enlisted in the Buckner Guards, Confederate Army, and served until the close of the war. In 1865 he came to Spencer County, where he has since resided, engaging in carpentering and farming. In 1853 he married Miss Susan M. Thomas, of Nelson County, daughter of Mark L. and Catharine (Foster) Thomas, of that county. Mrs. Jesse died in 1858, the mother of two children: Annie E. and Mary C., both deceased.
