CAMPBELL was born in Spencer County, Ky., December 14, 1859, the eldest of six living children born to Stephen and Bettie C. (Mills) Campbell. Robert married Miss Maddox, and had one child, Nellie; the others are Mary, Arthur, Stephen and Bettie. Our subject's father was born in Spencer County, Ky., September 25, 1835, was one of Spencer County's best citizens; was a live, energetic, practical and successful farmer. He was married November 2, 1858, and died October 22, 1886. He was a son of Robert S. and Jane (Onan) Campbell. Robert was born in Scotland, married on May 12, 1825, and died May 18, 1859. His widow died August 11, 1869. Mrs. Bettie C. Campbell was born in Kentucky, and is a daughter of Timothy B. and Mary (Payne) Mills. Timothy was born in Maryland, May 13, 1797, married March 28, 1826, and died March 28, 1873. His wife, Mary Payne, was born March 2, 1804, and died August 8, 1871. Our subject was educated at St. Mary's College, Ky., and at Notre Dame College, Ind. He read law under Judge Thompson and Joseph B. Cox, and was admitted to the bar in 1884. He has a beautiful farm of 340 acres, just outside the city limits of Taylorsville. He follows his profession and superintends the farm.
