Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. ROBERT B. WINLOCK, M.D., deceased, was born in Shelby County, Ky., October 31, 1809, and was the eighth of the nine children born to Gen. Joseph and Effie (Stephenson) Winlock, both natives of Virginia, who came to Kentucky at an early date. Gen. Joseph Winlock was a participant in the war of the Revolution, and also in that of 1812, and died in Shelby County. Our subject was born and reared on the farm, and received a common-school education. He graduated in medicine when quite young, and very soon afterward located at Shelbyville, and for many years stood at the head of his profession in Shelby County. He was regarded by all as one of the most able physicians in Kentucky, and was a very popular man, both professionally and socially, and much beloved by all who knew him. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and a very liberal contributor to the church and all charitable organizations. About 1835 he married Louisa Adams, daughter of George (a native of Virginia) and Anna (a native of Pennsylvania) Adams, but among the first families who settled in Shelby County. To this union were born four children--two daughters and two sons--only two of whom are living: Georgiana and Eliza L. Our subject in 1871 gave up his practice, and moved to his farm in the western portion of Shelby County, where he died in 1887. His wife died in 1877, and now the only survivors of the family are his two children. At his death he owned 560 acres of valuable land, all of which are well improved, and the greater part of the same in a high state of cultivation. Dr. Winlock was a Royal Arch Mason, and politically a Democrat. Winlock Stephenson Adams = VA PA http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/shelby/winlock.rb.txt
