Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. THOMAS N. WILLIS, M.D., was born near Richmond, Madison County, October 22, 1854, and is the second of four children born to William and Dorinda Willis, natives of Kentucky. He was reared on the farm, and received his literary education from Central University at Richmond. In 1875 he engaged in the mercantile business at Richmond, Ky., and was thus engaged until 1876, when he turned his attention to the study of medicine, and in the fall of the same year entered the medical department of the Central University, in Louisville, and graduated from that institution in 1878. In 1878 he engaged as physician at the city hospital until 1880, at which time he returned to Richmond, and practiced his profession at that place until 1881. He then located at Normandy, in Spencer County, and practiced his profession very successfully until 1884. At that date he went to Finchville, Shelby County, where he located and where he has since been actively engaged in the practice of his profession, and is regarded by his patrons as one of the most reliable physicians. October 22, 1885, he married Martha, daughter of Col. Solomon and Lucinda Norman, of Spencer County. Dr. Willis is very popular, both professionally and socially. He and Mrs. Willis are members of the Baptist Church, and politically he is a Democrat.
