In November, 1836, he married Miss Eliza Juliet Price, and soon after left for Europe, where he continued his studies in the more favored medical schools of Paris and London. In 1861 he made a final settlement in Shelby County, and died near Shelbyville August 18, 1864. Dr. Jerman Baker was born at Woodville, the family seat of his ancestors, in Cumberland County, Va., April 11, 1809. His father, Hon. Jerman Baker, was a prominent lawyer of Virginia; twenty years a member of the State Legislature; and, under the old constitution, a member of the State executive council. His grandfather, Jerman Baker, was also one of the leading lawyers of Virginia to which State he emigrated from England, about 1780. His mother was Bolling (Epps) Baker, second daughter of Col. Francis Epps, of Virginia, a Revolutionary soldier. She was a sister of Hon. John W. Epps, a member of Congress, of Virginia, and son-in-law of Thomas Jefferson. Dr. Baker is a graduate of the University of Virginia and of the Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia. In 1834 he married Miss Mary J. daughter of Thomas J. and Fannie S.
