Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. NOBLE ONAN, farmer, was born in Shelby County, May 22, 1840, a son of William and Cynthia (Nash) Onan. The former was a native of Franklin County, a son of Dennis Onan. The latter was born in Shelby County, a daughter of Noble Nash. Our subject was reared in Shelby County and received a common school education. He has been a farmer all his life, also engages in stock raising, and occasionally buys cattle and mules and fattens them for the market. He married, in 1859, Joanna Barnette, of Henry County, a daughter of John Barnette. Four daughters have blessed this union: Amanda (died while in infancy), Josie, Bertha and Idalia. Mrs. Onan and Bertha are members of the Baptist Church. Mr. Onan owns 126 acres of good land in Shelby County. He was a soldier in the civil was under Gen.
