Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. VIRGIL LEWIS was born in Shelby County, Ky., March 31, 1843, a son of B. O. and Lucinda (Bailey) Lewis. His father was born in Virginia in 1798, and is a son of Isaac and Nancy (Overfield) Lewis, both natives of Virginia. His mother died in 1845, and our subject does not know anything about her parents. Virgil Lewis was reared in Shelby County, and educated at the common schools. He has always been a farmer and stock raiser. February 22, 1871, he married Sallie Hamlet, and November 25, 1880, married Miss Ella Thompson, of Woodford County., daughter of R. T. and Mildred (Henton) Thompson. Three children were born to this union: Isaac T., Mary and an infant. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis are members of the Baptist Church. He is a Royal Arch Mason, and for six years was secretary of the Blue Lodge and was Junior Warden one year. Mr. Lewis served in the Confederate Army under Gen. Morgan. He owns 150 acres of land.
