Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. J. W. GREEN was born in Culpeper County, Va., in 1841. His parents, Aaron and Katie (Duloney) Green, were also natives of Culpeper County, Va. The father was a shoe merchant, and died about 1861 in his native State. The mother died in 1845. J. W. Green came to Kentucky in 1858, studied dentistry, and also conducted shoe and dry goods stores at Chestnut Grove, on the Shelbyville and Smithfield Pike, Shelby County, and is the founder of the village of Chestnut Grove. In 1870 he began merchandising at that place, has since continued with success, and has been postmaster since 1872. In addition to his store he also owns about four acres of land. In 1859 he married Miss Sallie Lancaster, of Shelby County, who died in 1879, and in September, 1880, he married Miss Belle Vincent, also of Shelby County. She died in 1881, and in 1882 he married Miss Mary Miles, daughter of Gibson Miles, of an old Virginian family. To them were born two children, both now deceased. Mr. Green has been a member of the Baptist Church for thirty years, and a deacon for fourteen years.
