Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. CHARLES M. ELLIS was born in Warren County, Mo., June 19, 1833, the second son of Joseph and Nancy (Netherton) Ellis, natives respectively of Shelby and Oldham Counties, Ky. His grandfather, Charles Ellis, was born in Virginia, and came to Shelby County in an early day; located near Drover Church, and followed farming. His maternal grandfather, Netherton, was also a native of Virginia, and an early settler of Oldham County. Joseph Ellis now resides in Missouri, aged eighty-two years. Our subject was reared on the farm, and educated in an academy at Troy, Mo. In 1859 he moved to Kentucky and located in Shelby County. He married, November 2, 1859, Miss Mary K. Booker, a native of Shelby County, and daughter of Samuel and Nancy Booker. Nine children were born to their union: Wen E., Hallie, Richard B., Samuel, Robert A., Henry, Charles H. Jr., Mollie E. and Calway. Mr. Ellis has always engaged in farming, and owns 106 acres of land.
