Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. DAVID BROWN was born February 5, 1819, near Shelbyville, Shelby County. He is the only son of Demarcus Brown, of Virginia, who came to Kentucky in 1798, locating in Henry County, and after living there a few years moving to Shelby County. He married Sarah Banta, of New Jersey, who came to Kentucky before marriage. Our subject's grandfather was Barnabas Brown, a native of Virginia, and a farmer at that place. David Brown was educated in the common schools, and has always followed farming pursuits. He owns 104 acres of improved land in Shelby County. May 9, 1844, he was united in marriage with Martha Johnson, daughter of Daniel J. and Nancy (Metcalf) Johnson, both from Virginia. One child was born to this union: Bullock.
