Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. ROBERT BONDURANT was born in Shelby COunty, May 14, 1835. His father, Elliott, was born in Woodford County, Ky., October 31, 1807, a son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Bohannon) Bondurant, the former a native of Virginia and a son of Dr. Joseph, also a native of Virginia, and whose father was born in France. Elliott, who now makes his home with our subject, left Woodford County when a child, and with his parents moved to Shelby County. In April 1830, he married Malissa Gale, who bore him three children (all deceased but Robert), and died in July 1876. He is a member of the Baptist Church, to which his wife also belonged; is of a genial disposition, and now in his old age is universally respected. Our subject married Kate Kerney, of Owen County, daughter of Rev. J. E. and Kate (Hawkins) Kerney. Four children were born to this union: Offie (who married B. D. Estes, and who had two children: Elliott and Bessie), Edwin W., Elliott and Mary. Mr. Bondurant has always been engaged in farming and stock raising, making a specialty of Shorthorn cattle. He owns 240 acres of good land. Mr. and Mrs. Bondurant are members of the Baptist Church.
