Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. SAMUEL S. ALEXANDER, M. D., one of the leading practitioners of the medical profession, was born in Louisville, Ky., March 30, 1832. He received his literary education in his native city, where, in 1854, he commenced the study of medicine under Dr. D. W. Yandel, and graduated from the University of Louisville in 1856. He then located in Christiansburg, in Shelby County, and practiced his profession until 1869, when he went to Finchville and practiced until 1876. At that time he went to West Point in Hardin County, and remained until 1884. Returning to Finchville he resumed his practice, and there has been constantly engaged in the same ever since. In 1857 he married Miss Susan F. Malone, daughter of William D. Malone, a very popular man in Jefferson County, and who represented the county in the State Legislature. To this union were born seven children--four daughters and three sons: Carrie B., William M., Susan K., Thornton M., John B., Julia T. and Mary W. B., two of whom are dead, Thornton M. and John B. Mrs. Alexander died January 6, 1887, a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. The Doctor is a member of the Baptist Church, and a Royal Arch Mason. In politics he is a Democrat.
