DUVALL, retired, P. O. Stamping Ground. Col. John Duvall, the father of this gentleman, was born in Culpepper [sic] County, Va., March 14, 1783; in 1791 emigrated to Fayette County, and in 1792 removed to Scott County, being among the first settlers of Stamping Ground precinct. He died Sept. 8, 1859. Jane (Branham) Duvall, his wife, was born in Scott County, Nov. 6, 1785, and died Dec. 12, 1854. Of the ten children born to them, W. P. Duvall, our subject, was the fifth child and fourth son. He was born in Scott County, Jan. 6, 1815; his early life was spent in receiving and education and assisting in tilling the soil of his father's farm, remaining with his father to the time of his death. In 1848 he was elected to the Legislature for one term; in 1865, was re-elected; in 1867 was elected door-keeper of the Senate, and in 1871, was elected to the Senate to represent the counties Scott, Harrison and Robinson. October 4, 1855, in Scott County, he married Miss Caroline Robinson, who was born June 21, 1827. They are the parents of two children, one of whom is now living--George E. He was born Aug. 31, 1856, and in September 1877, was married to Lillie Wright. He is at the present time carrying on a mercantile business at the "Stamp." Col.
