Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Rockcastle County David N. Williams was born in Rockcastle County, Ky., April 27. 1838. His father, Richard G. Williams, was born in Culpeper County, Va., in 1787; he came to Kentucky in 1808 and first settled in Madison County, where he lived a number of years, and then moved to Rockcastle County. He was a saddler and harness-maker by trade, which he followed for many years in Mount Vernon. His wife, Katherine (Holder) Williams, was born at Boonesboro, Clark County, Ky, and was a daughter of Capt. John Holder, who was a Revolutionary soldier and one of the earliest settlers of Kentucky. Mr. And Mrs. Richard G. Williams were the parents of eleven children, of whom David N. was the tenth child born. He was reared and educated at Mount Vernon, where he has been engaged in mercantile pursuits nearly all his life. In 1873 he was elected county clerk of Rockcastle County, being re-elected three times and serving until 1883. April 24, 1860, he married Mary E., a daughter of John and Matilda (Laryford) Haley, of Rockcastle County. To this union have been born five children, viz: Casper C., McClelland C., Cleo, John H., and Richard C. Mr. Williams is a Democrat, and a member of the F. & A.M.
