Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Rockcastle County James L. White, a native of Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Ky., was born November 27, 1851. His father, Thomas C. White, a native of Claiborne County, Tenn., moved to Lincoln County, Ky., when young, where he has followed farming ever since; he is a stone-mason by trade, to which trade he has devoted considerable attention. He married Rhoda Lane, also a native of Claiborne County, Tenn., and they were the parents of six children, viz: James L., William P., Sarah J., K.B., Maggie T. and Robert C. James L. White was reared on the farm and educated in his native county. In 1874 he moved to Rockcastle County and devoted his time to agricultural pursuits until 1881, when he was appointed sheriff of Rockcastle County by H. H. Baker, in which capacity he served until January, 1887. In August, 1886, he was elected sheriff of the county and assumed the duties of that office January 1, 1887. He also carries on an extensive mercantile business at Mount Vernon. February 4, 1875, he married Liddie F. Baker, a daughter of Harris and Miranda (McQuary) Baker, of Rockcastle County. Five children have been born to them, viz: W.T. White, Harris H., Rhoda M., James G. and Robert P. Mr. White votes with the Republicans.
