1887 Robertson County

O.S. DEMING, an attorney-at-law of Mt. Olivet, Robertson County, Ky., is
a native of Oisego County, N.Y., was born December 22, 1838, and is a 
son of Captain David and Almira (Sage) Deming, natives of New York and
Massachusetts respectively, and of English and Irish origin.  O.S.
Deming was educated at Waterford (Penn.) Seminary, going through a 
scientific and classical course.  He read law in Warren, Penn., and in 
1860 came to Mt. Olivet, Ky., where he taught school awhile.  In 1863 
he entered the United States service, and served for thirteen months on 
a gun boat in the Mississippi River fleet, as Gunner's Mate.  He then 
returned to Kentucky, resumed the study of law, and in 1868 was admitted
to practice.  The same year he was elected county attorney of Robertson 
County, and was the first one, the county having been erected in 1867.  
In 1872 he was elected county judge, served four years and was 
reelected, but resigned.  In 1876 he was an elector on the Hayes 
Presidential ticket, and in 1879 was the Republican nominee for 
Lieutenant Governor of the State of Kentucky.  He married Miss Leona C. 
Rigg, of Bourbon County, and is the father of four children, viz: 
William C., David S., Thomas H. and Ada P.  Mr. Deming owns about 800
acres of land, and is erecting one of the finest and most spacious 
residences in Robertson County.  He is a Freemason and a member of the 
Christian Church.
