Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Pulaski County Samuel Warren, a druggist of Somerset, Ky., was born in Boyle County, Ky., October 4, 1843, and is a son of J.F. and Mary (Crutchfield) Warren. J.F. Warren was born in Lincoln County, now Boyle County, in 1806, and followed agricultural pursuits all his life. He died December 24, 1862. He was a son of William Warren, a native of Virginia, who removed to Lincoln County, KY, with his parents when a child. His father's name was also William. Mary (Crutchfield) Warren was born in Mercer County, now Boyle County, and is a daughter of Richard Crutchfield, a native of Richmond, Va., who was an architect. Samuel Warren is the fourth child in a family of nine living children, viz: Annie Holloway, Mary T. Samuel, William, Samuel, R.C., John F., Cornelia K., E.S. and I.S. Samuel Warren received his education at Centre College, Danville, Ky., where he graduated in 1860, and the following year enlisted in the Confederate army, Company K, Eighteenth Mississippi Infantry. He was captured at Chancellorsville, Va., imprisoned one month, and then exchanged. He surrendered April 9, 1865, and went to Richmond, Va., where he remained one or two months, but engaged in no particular business until January 1, 1866, when he entered a drug house in Danville and remained as a clerk until 1870. In 1872 and 1873 he attended the Louisville School of Pharmacy. In 1879 he became a partner in the drug house, under the firm name of Samuel & Warren, where he was engaged until January 1, 1884. Mr. Warren then retired from the firm and removed to Somerset, where, in March, 1884, he opened a drug store, which he has since conducted. June 5, 1883, Mr. Warren married Miss Mary D. Strahn, of Georgetown, KY, a daughter of Rev. F.C. and Charlotte (Duke) Strahn. One child has blessed their union, Charlotte. Mr. Warren votes with the Democrats.
