Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Pulaski County George W. Wait, a merchant of Somerset, Ky., was born in Somerset, July 19, 1850. He is a son of C. and Mary (Newell) Wait. C. Wait was born in Massachusetts in 1792, and located in Somerset, Ky., when a young man. He manufactured salt five miles from Somerset for a number of years, and for many years was engaged in banking. He represented Pulaski County in both houses of the Legislature for four or five terms, and took an active part in educational matters. He was regarded as one of the best citizens of eastern and southern Kentucky; he died in 1868. Mary (Newell) Wait, a native of Pulaski County, is a daughter of John M. Newell, a native of Virginia. G.W. Wait is the second of six children, viz: John, George W., Frank, M.F., H.C. and Maggie, Mr. Wait received his education at the common schools and at the Masonic College, Somerset, KY. In 1872 he opened a general store in Somerset and has ever since been engaged in mercantile pursuits, under the firm name of Wait Bros. February 24, 1874, he married Linn S. Sanders, of Pulaski County, a daughter of G.W. and Jane (Long) Sanders. Six children have blessed their union, viz: Cy, Ed, Harry, William, Clark and Kinkade. Mrs. Wait is a member of the Baptist Church, while Mr. Wait affiliates with the Presbyterian. In politics he is Democratic.
