Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Pulaski County W.A. Waddle was born in Pulaski County, KY, October 24, 1858, and is a son of William and Maria (Ham) Waddle. William Waddle, also a native of Pulaski County, was born in 1825; he served as deputy sheriff of his native county two or three terms, was constable for a number of years, and is now magistrate, in which latter capacity he has served several years. He resides three miles from Somerset of a farm. His parents were William and Sallie (Waddle) Waddle, the former of whom, a native of Garrard County, KY, was a farmer all his life. Maria (Ham) Waddle, also a native of Pulaski County, is a daughter of Adolphus and Mahala (Hail) Ham. Adolphus Ham was born in North Carolina, and was also a farmer by occupation. W.A. Waddle received his education at the common schools and at the Masonic College, Somerset, KY. He was reared on the farm, and was an extensive stock-dealer until 1876, when, in partnership with his brother, John H., he opened a general store in Somerset, and has since devoted his entire time to mercantile pursuits, under the firm name of Waddle Bros. December 12, 1873, he married Miss Bettie C. Curd, of Louisville, KY, a daughter of L. and Rebecca (Woods) Curd. They are the parents of two children, Norman and Lance. Mrs. Waddle is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Mr. Waddle is a member of the K. of H., was Grand Dictator one term, and in political preference is a Democrat.
