Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Pulaski County J.M. Perkins, M.D., was born in Lincoln County, KY, May 13, 1818. He is a son of Elisha and Sarah (Gooch) Perkins. E. Perkins also a native of Lincoln County, was a farmer and merchant, and died at the age of seventy-five years, having been a member of the Baptist Church for many years before his death. He was a son of Reuben Perkins. Sarah (Gooch) Perkins was a native of Virginia. At the age of nineteen Dr. Perkins located at Somerset, Ky., where he has since resided. He received only a common-school education; and at the age of twenty commenced to read medicine under Dr. Thompson. He attended lectures at the University of Louisville, Ky., a short time, and is regarded as a successful physician of eastern Kentucky. He has been married three times, first to Miss Mary Jane Fitzpatrick, daughter of George and Mary (Fitzpatrick) Fitzpatrick. Three children were born to their union, one of whom is living, George. Left a widower, Mr. Perkins next married Mrs. Elizabeth Farris, a daughter of Josiah Evans. His second wife dying the Doctor married Mrs. Elizabeth Brawner, nee Taylor. One child has blessed their union, Nannie T. Mrs. Perkins is a member of the Christian Church. Dr. Perkins is a Royal Arch Mason.
