Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Pulaski County Captain Will C. Curd was born in Somerset, Ky., August 3, 1836. He is a son of John B. and Helen M. (Chapline) Curd. John B. Curd was born near Glasgow, Barren County, KY, in 1802. He was a merchant and hotel-keeper most of his life, but at the time of his death, in August, 1850, he was cashier of the Farmers' Bank of Kentucky, He was a member of the Methodist Church, and one of the highest Masons in the State. He was a son of Daniel and Fannie (Trigg) Curd. Daniel Curd, a native of Virginia, was a farmer and surveyor. Mrs. Helen M. Curd, a native of Kentucky, was a daughter of William and Elizabeth (Perkins) Chapline. William Chapline was the first county and circuit clerk in Warren County, Ky.. Capt. Curd has three sisters living, viz: Mrs. E. C. Crawford, Mrs. Sallie A. Keen and Mrs. Mattie Gregg. Capt. Will C. Curd received a good common-school education. In 1851 or '52 he went to Danville, Ky., and was deputy county and circuit clerk for a short time. He then returned to Somerset and was deputy circuit clerk until 1854, when he accepted a position with Montgomery, Davidge & Co., of Louisville, with whom he remained about six months. He then returned to Somerset and served as deputy circuit clerk until the summer of 1862, when he elisted in the Confederate army, Company C, Sixth Kentucky Regiment, under command of Col. Grigsby and Capt. M.B. Perkins, Gen. John H. Morgan's command. He served until the close of the war, surrendering near Washington, Ga., the day before the capture of President Jefferson Davis; he was one of the escorts of President Davis and Gen. John C. Breckinridge from Charlotte, N.C. to Washington, Ga.. At the close of the war he returned to Somerset, Ky., where for about one year he was engaged as a drug clerk. He read law with A.J. James and Col. W. McKee Fox, and was admitted to the bar in 1867. In the latter year he went to Edmonton, Metcalfe County, Ky., where he remained fourteen months as a partner of the law firm of Roupian & Curd, then returned to Somerset, where he has since resided, continuing in the practice of his profession. He served as county attorney of Pulaski County five years, and was master commissioner twelve years. December 23, 1869, Mr. Curd married Belle O. Saunders, of Pulaski County, a daughter of G.W. and Jane (Long) Saunders. Of the six children born to them four are living: Jennie F., Clara O., William C. and George B. Mrs. Curd is a member of the Baptist Church. Capt. Curd is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, of the L.O.O.F. and K. of H. In politics he is a Democrat.
