B. R. ALLNUT was born in Owen County, Ky., January 28, 1823, and is a son
of Jesse and Patsey (Wright) Allnutt. Jesse Allnutt was a son of William
Allnutt, was born in Maryland, and emigrated to North Carolina, and
then to Fayette County, Ky. He was a farmer, and died in Owen County in
1850. William Allnutt, a native of Wales, came to America at an early
day, and settled in Maryland. Patsey (Wright) Allnutt was a daughter of
John Wright, who emigrated from England to America, and settled in North
Carolina. She was the youngest child of a family of eighteen children--
twelve daughters and six sons--all of whom lived to years of maturity,
and the sons were all prominent men of North Carolina, all holding high
offices of trust. B. R. Allnutt received his education in the common
schools of Owen County, and when a young man served an apprenticeship in
the wagon and carriage shop of C. M. Riley, which trade he followed for
ten years. He then went to Missouri, and began farming, but soon
returned to Kentucky, and engaged in agricultural pursuits in Owen
County. He owns a farm of 400 acres, which he values at $30 an acre.
He also owns one of the most elegant residences in Owen County. Mr.
Allnut has twice married; first, to Miss Huldah A. Webster, a daughter of
Reuben Webster, of Owen County, formerly of Fayette County, Ky., and
eight children blessed this union, of which there are but three living;
Alice (wife of Llewellyn Abbott, a farmer of Owen County), Reuben W.
and Thomas R., both farmers. Mr. Allnutt's second marriage was to
Mrs. Susan Davis, daughter of George W. White of Owen County. Mr.
Allnutt is a member of the Baptist Church, having joined that church
in 1844.
