Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. JOHN R. TIMBERLAKE, M.D., was born in Dayton, Ohio, January 10, 1833, the last of a family of five children born to Charles and Helen (Cramer) Timberlake, natives of Virginia and Pennsylvania. He was brought by his parents to Louisville, Ky., in 1847, where he was reared and educated. In early life he learned and worked at the printer's trade with John H. Harney, at that time the editor of the Louisville Democrat. In 1854 he commenced the study of medicine with Dr. M. L. Lewis, of Louisville, and graduated in 1857 from the Kentucky School of Medicine, and in 1859 received a diploma from the University of Louisville. Soon after he became publisher of the Louisville Medical Journal, and served in that capacity until the outbreak of the civil war, when he sold out, and turned his attention to the practice of his profession in Louisville, and remained there until 1864, when he moved to Oldham County and located at Floydsburg, where he has been constantly engaged in the practice of his profession since. January 10, 1854, he married Miss Eliza Lewis, a daughter of Dr. M. L. and Ann (Johnson) Lewis, of Louisville. To this union were born six children--five daughters and one son: Anna E., Nellie, Julia, Cornelia, Hettie and Thomas L. (the last named being deceased). Dr. Timberlake and family are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He is a member of the F. & A. M., and politically is a Democrat.
