Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. WILLIAM SMISER was born February 12, 1809, in Jefferson County, Ky., where Newburg now stands, where his father settled the same year. His parents, Jacob and Nancy (Fry) Smiser, were natives of Maryland, and their parents of Germany. Jacob Smiser was a farmer and blacksmith, and died in 1830. William Smiser was reared to farming, and was educated in Jefferson County, removed to Oldham County in 1832, and the same year married Miss Sallie Fible, of Oldham, who is still living, in her seventy-fifth year. She is the daughter of Joseph and Kizrah (Worden) Fible, who came from Virginia, and early settled about four miles southeast of LaGrange. To Mr. and Mrs. Smiser have been born nine children, as follows: Nancy M., Mary E., John Z., William (deceased), George (who was killed in the Confederate Army while bearing a flag of truce at New Castle), James T., Jacob F., Sallie S. and Cora A. Mr. Smiser is the owner of a fine farm of 270 acres, and is a member of the Baptist Church at Ballardsville.
