Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. ROBERT SHERLEY was born in Oldham County, Ky., July 25, 1839. He was reared on the farm, the pursuits of which he has always followed, and now has 247 acres of land in Brownsboro Precinct, Oldham County. He married, November 4, 1856, Bettie, daughter of Samuel and Martha (Bland) Overstreet, and five sons and three daughters have blessed their union: William B., Zachary T., Samuel, Andrew, Green H., Mattie B., Elizabeth L. and Zula May. His father, Thomas Sherley, was a native of Kentucky, a trader and pork packer, and died near Natchez, Miss. He married Lucy Button, who bore him one son (our subject) and one daughter, and died in 1875. Our subject's grandfather, Louis Sherley, was a native of Virginia, but located in Jefferson County, Ky., in an early day and died in Texas. His grandfather, William Button, was also born in Virginia, and was one of the early settlers of Oldham County, Ky., where he died. Our subject is a Democrat, and is a member of the Masonic fraternity, in which he has taken three degrees. His wife is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.
