Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. CAPT. GEORGE R. RADER is a native of Bourbon County, Ky., and was born April 3, 1812. His father, Alexander Rader, a native of Virginia, followed farming in his native State. Later he removed to Kentucky, in 1823, and engaged at the millwright trade in Oldham County, where he died. He was a soldier under Gen. Harrison in the war of 1812, and participated in the battle of Tippecanoe. He married Clara Ruddell, of Virginia, daughter of Isaac Ruddell, a native of England, and three sons and five daughters were born to their union. Of these our subject is the youngest. His early life was devoted to farming pursuits, but in 1840 he removed to Louisville, where he was engaged in the produce business and steamboating for many years. In 1854 he went to Clark County, Ind., purchased several hundred acres of land, and was engaged in saw-milling in Henryville. In 1859 he removed to Seymour, where he kept a hotel and farmed for eleven years. Subsequently he came to Oldham County, Ky., and located on his present farm of 212 acres in Brownsboro Precinct. He married, in 1831, Eva Asher, of Shelby County, who died in 1836, and July 26, 1840, he married Nancy Callender, of Shelby County. To this union eleven children were born, as follows: Helen, Thomas (deceased), Sarah J., Mary, John (deceased), Sue, Ruddell (deceased), Georgie E., Nannie B., Norris P. and Clara (deceased). Politically Capt. Rader is a Democrat. He served as deputy marshal four years. He is a member of the I.O.O.F. and of the Presbyterian Church.
