OVERSTREET is the youngest son of four sons born to Mitchell R. and Martha (Coor) Overstreet, natives of Virginia, and of English descent, and was born in Oldham County, Ky., September 11, 1828. Mitchell R. Overstreet was born in 1793, came to Kentucky, and settled about three miles south of LaGrange is an early day; was a merchant and postmaster at Lafayetteville, and died in 1858. Gabriel M. Overstreet was reared a farmer, and educated in the schools of the county. In October, 1866, he married Miss Mollie Kelso, daughter of James and Louise (Howard) Kelso, of Shelby County. The five children born to their union are Rosa Belle, Walter M., James Wilder, Claudius E. and Daisy. Mr. Overstreet resides on his farm of 600 acres, is the owner of the Russell Hotel, and is a stockholder in the Bank of Oldham. In religion he affiliates with the Christian Church.
