Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. GEORGE METZ was born in Germany, April 22, 1831, a son of Henry and Mary C. (Miller) Metz, both natives of Germany. His parents both died in Germany, his father January 21, 1847, and his mother July, 5, 1843. Both were members of the Lutheran Church. Our subject arrived in Philadelphia from his native country, September 26, 1852, and remained nine months, moving thence to San Francisco, Cal., where he engaged in merchandising. He remained in California until February 22, 1866, and then came to Kentucky, and engaged in the grocery and meat business in Louisville. May 2, 1877, he moved to Oldham County and located on his present place of ninety acres in Rollington Precinct. He married, February 14, 1883, Matilda Meineker, a native of Germany, who bore him one son and one daughter--George and Margie. Mr. Metz is a Royal Arch Mason, Mount Zion Lodge, No. 117, Louisville, and, with his wife, a member of the Lutheran Church. Politically he is a Democrat.
