Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. ROBERT M. HAWLEY was born in 1854, near LaGrange, Oldham County. His father, Absalom Hawley, was born and reared on a farm in Shelby County, Ky., has all his life been engaged in farming and stock raising and now owns 500 acres of land on the waters of Curry's Fork. He has been a member of the Baptist Church for forty years. His wife, Lucy A. Stonestreet, was born in Oldham County, Ky., in 1833, the daughter of Butler Stonestreet, of a leading North Carolina family, but later a resident of Oldham County, Ky. She is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Our subject was educated in the schools of his native county and at Forrest Academy, Anchorage, Ky. After finishing his education he engaged in the live stock business which he still successfully follows, and ships thousands of lambs annually, also ships horses and mules to the Southern market. In June, 1885, he was elected sheriff of Oldham County, and was again elected in 1886 to the same office without opposition. In 1883 he was united in marriage with Miss Ida M. Davis, daughter of Thomas Davis, of Ballardsville. Mr. Davis is the king cattle feeder of the county, and is so called because he fattens and ships the largest and best herds of cattle in the county. Mrs. Hawley was born in 1857, is a lady of fine culture, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
