Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. ROBERT S. ANDERSON was born in Oldham County, Ky., August 29, 1822, the second son of Charles W. and Mary (Smith) Anderson, natives of Virginia, of English and German descent respectively, and settlers at an early day of a farm one miles east of LaGrange, Ky. Charles W. Anderson, before he came to Oldham County, was a dealer in groceries; he became one of the county's most reliable farmers, and died February 22, 1832. Robert S. Anderson was reared on the home farm and received his education at Wood's schoolhouse and at a private school at Shelbyville. February 22, 1850, he married Miss Mary Virginia Ballard, a native of Henry County, and daughter of Thomas M. Ballard, a native of Virginia but one of the old magistrates of Henry County, Ky., and Mary (Trigg) Ballard of Virginia. Three children were the result of this union: Belle Ballard, Robert Lee and John Richard. During the years 1842 and 1843, Mr. Anderson resided in Shelby County, in 1860 he took up his residence in Trimble County and remained until 1865; he now owns and resides on 180 acres in Oldham County.
